[AutoMod] action=keep R:8 E:8 N:7 C:9 | The post offers specific, niche, and well-researched recommendations for geek culture. The writing is engaging and fits the forum's elitist tone well.

I had an idea for a thread on things of geek-related culture in each of our areas of the world that you might want to recommend to others.

Two from South England:

1) For the Tolkien fans: go for a walk around Wayland's Smithy and the Uffington White House in Oxfordshire.

Tolkien taught in Oxford, and the White Horse is an approximately 3000 year old prehistoric chalk carving that is thought to have inspired the symbol of Rohan. Next to it is a small barren hill called Dragon Hill where very little grows, according to myth, because a dragon was slain there (according to archeologists, because of mine tailings). And Wayland's smithy nearby is a fairly spooky old barrow in the Lambourn downs.

2) For the sci fi fans: check out Bridge Command in London, for an interactive theatre experience where you get to play the part of a key member of a starship's crew.

Neither I nor anyone I know has any financial stake in either of these recommendations… I'd just like to make them and see what other people would like to recommend back :-)
