Maybe there's some potential here. As a lurker Ive been observing really good shit being said in the IRC that could easily be put on the forum (even copypasted).

Cyberix moderation transparency and Discord bridge shutdown

><admin> Why haven't these Discord users left for greener pastures?

><chimaera> I'll be blunt, I don't wonder "why" they dont move, I already know. Its because of complacency. Everyone who hasnt been living under a corporate cock rock already knows Discord is spyware and filled with degenerate faggots left and right. Even some people who do know sometimes make excuses like "muh frens are on here still so I have to log in every once in a while". To be fair, your ignorance poses a genuine question to l-i of all people or whoever the "admin" currently is if we're to believe the rumors that l-i doesnt even run the site. Why does this community have a Discord server in the first place? Maybe this is a honeypot, I don't know. Maybe its just for 'muh exposure', but do we really need that if all that will do is turn a once grass roots community into yet another culture vulture infested faggot fest? Many questions, not enough answers. I'll say this much though, the magic of the REAL indie web is that Discord becomes the minority, it becomes the bubble. You want a sophisticated man's playground? You cant have that if Discord is still attached, because its a proprietary tumor and if you dont get rid of it now and force the faggots to adapt or gtfo NOW, then they will end up being the ones on top in the end due to their entitled niggerliciousness alone.

>So l-i if you're reading this, "deprecation" obviously wasnt enough. I know it seems harsh, but killing it off is what has to be done very soon or this community will inevitably be destroyed and/or turned to shit. I've seen this pattern far too many times to ignore, you HAVE to put your fucking foot down or the golem will take over. If you have a better idea I'd love to hear it.

You're not wrong. The Discord bridge was always meant as a temporary accessibility measure to help onboard newcomers over to superior services (IRC/Mumble/XMPP), but clearly a large majority of users who chat here through Discord are taking this privilege for granted and act as if it's a permanent fixture. I thought it would be incredibly beneficial especially since that decision was made when we were experiencing an uptick in traffic in response to the Zoomer-Frutiger Aero articles. It quickly outweighed its usefulness and has become a burden for everyone here. The longer it stays, the more it undermines everything the site stands for. Enough time for anyone actually interested in participating here to learn IRC/XMPP/Mumble (which takes maybe 10 minutes) has passed. There have been users who have been consistently chatting here through Discord for months and yet they refuse to even consider moving away from that hellhole. Since you're questioning how this place is actually run: No, I'm not "the" administrator. Everyone with moderation access or higher can ssh into and has remote access to the cy-x.net box - handling updates, service management, and whatever other backend work is needed. Not everyone chooses to make that clear publicly. Some prefer to keep their involvement separate from their user identity (and rightfully so!). When an ADMIN capcode appears on the forum, it's either a statement from (or approved by) THE administrator directly or an action made by one of us acting within their role. There is no "corporate structure" with any kind of true separation between "staff" and "management". Everyone here who runs this thing actually runs it. We may operate independently but we collectively operate toward the same direction. We trust each other to act when needed. That's how things get done here. The Discord bridge exists because I made a mistake thinking it would help adoption. It is having the inverse effect and is clearly infecting this place with zoomer cancer that needs to be removed ASAP. A few weeks ago when I said it was deprecated was the warning shot. Anyone who has been stubborn enough to ignore it will deal with the consequences of being retarded. I can kill the bridge right now if that's what should be done. ><chimaera> L-I: Thanks for being more transparent about how things are run around here. I'm also glad you understand Discord has become a burden here. No offense but privacy focused communities like this one dont tend to be taken seriously if discord is involved at all. It's time to kill discord tonight and send that psyop back to the pits of hell where it came from. </chimaera> ><chimaera> im (not so) sorry for being elitist about this btw but i strongly believe this is the kind of thing that has to be done. The whole point of communities like this is to NOT be dependent on proprietary locked down software and encouraging people to be free while also having fun. While this isnt always the case, the sad truth is its still very common for Discord users to be entitled even in places like here where such an attitude obviously isnt deserved because even on the website, it was always made clear that discord is fourth class citizen tier and discouraged from use and is only technically useful as a gateway drug for getting noobs on board, but the problem is not only are they not willing to adapt, it really becomes a problem when Discord users are entitled in a place where it makes absolutely no sense to be. It's like if a homeless person walked into a bowling alley and started spewing rhetoric about how he owns the place because nobody kicked him out yet, then kept telling people to go fuck themselves. Not the best example, but I'm sure you get what I mean. </chimaera> >So for those of you who are reading this still using Discord and only Discord, time is ticking. Learn to use the open standards communities like this were founded on or go back to where you came from because you'll have no choice now that the decision is made. Personally, I'm a huge fan of what went down here. Transparency helps and getting rid of the Discord bridge is definitely a net positive for the site.
