if people want popularity metrics, they'll post on reddit.
total hits and unique visitors should also go imo.
it attracts attention whoring, and that drives away value.
it doesn't set this place apart, it makes it seem more bland.
and the contrast between the unique visitors (in the thousands) and the views that threads get (in the tens or hundreds) makes this place seem deserted, which is also discouraging.
I bet the majority of views are on the articles, and since article views don't exist or are separate from the forum thread views, thats where that contrast comes from maybe??
Although its a good idea to remove them.. I personally think they're useful to gauge whether or not anyone has seen my thread and thus possibly replied to it and helped further it
There are many forums without view counts and its easy to tell if they're deserted, too. Maybe the reply counts are the ones that do it the most, not sure, really. I don't really think I've seen a forum that doesn't immediately feel dead at a first glance.. Maybe some have the created at date with a thread that when you click on it has like 3 replies, so you subconsciously assume most threads are dead to begin with, even the newer ones..

No metadata is good metadata. In any regard, allowing (rightfully so!) Tor clashes with the whole "views" feature, as anyone can generate fake traffic through the network.
Yeah. The fucking 4chan-tier Linux thread apparently gets hundreds of views almost every day and managed to get 2k views in such a short amount of time while the other threads on this site stay mostly double-triple digit.
I am definitely going to experiment with this. I think it'd be a genuinely good addition to the site, and plus it also gives me an excuse to work on some overdue missing features like RSS/Atom feeds for the site and the maintenance for the new storage devices I got

I am on board with OP except for 1, if not 2, points. The most glaring point of all which I do not concur with is the "remove unique visitors" request. Such measurements are not unique to sites like plebbit/reddit nor tumblr. 2nd of all, and of lesser importance is how to approach said removal of # of views.

In my opinion views should be fine on replies but on not the OP which i think is probably the most balanced approach towards the issue but i'm also not entirely against the idea of removing views entirely which another anon stated

I don't think it makes a difference, and also the numbers are actually pretty high, I don't understand how they seem low to anyone when your post gets dozends of views in a day

Views by itself could be worse or not. Example with Piracy Sites like cs rus or something along the name of that.
The point is, views of itself as you said, is useless. However if you can't tell how many views a post has, then why does the user want to click it?

This should not deanonymize people. The goal is not to deanonymize people.
The goal is to make it easier for people to easily be more confident in pointing out dishonest/malicious users who try to derail threads rather than contribute to them. It doesn't mean every poster with an IP anonymizer badge is bad, but it just means "hey, if this person seems to be acting like a jackass, they might be doing it on purpose".

I'm sorry but what the fuck is the point of not showing exact dates?? I'm coming here for a second time and I can hardly tell which threads and replies I've already read and which are new. That's terrible, even worse than those sites that show "X months/years ago" but not the actual day it was posted so you can never tell if it was before or after a relevant date. There's removing unnecessary metrics, and there's making things confusing and unintuitive by removing stuff just because it uses numbers. Please consider changing it back.

You're reading too fast and not actually absorbing what's being posted. I can remember threads just fine.

You don't need to. Each thread is as equally ad valuable as the other regardless of when they were posted. It is about the content rather than exploitative metrics that end up killing a site due to user ignorance controlling what threads they look at and reply to solely because of things like date.
