Flavor of GoboLinux
Except it's riced out, debloated and configed for our needs
And add a arch chroot for software
The base system remains lean, minimal and frozen. Beautifully riced
Shitware and junk goes in the Arch chroot
Chroot can be accessed easily, maybe 'c' is the command like 'c pacman -S burger'
We keep the riced out SysVinit, zsh and enjoy GoboNet, GoboLight and other useful tools and features that come with the base distro and dont suffer from forced Linux obsolesence
Benefits over other distros:
sexy file system hierarchy
sexy boot screen
no systemd
separation of concerns - the host system is always lightweight and small, thus easy to manage
Nature of the system allows flexibility and extensibility
Ideas:
Maybe three primary chroots for multiple kinds of software?
Debian 10/11 chroot or Devuan 12 chroot
Gentoo chroot for compilation autism, maybe use one of the retro/classic prefixes maintained by the veterans/greybeards for less trouble
Arch chroot for the AUR?
Issue: need to install same libs across all chroots, very fucking stupid
Maybe Arch is all we need for the chroot because of the AUR
Notes: New versions of MESA in chroots cause problems, Gobo's Mesa is 19.4.1 and compiling a new one is a pain in the fucking ass and WILL make you go through dependency hell. Currently the only solution here is to install older versions of Mesa on the chroot. I don't think anybody here plays modern garbage though so this is an acceptable downside
Flatpak doesn't work in chroots and I haven't been able to make it work on a host Gobo system.
Not like we'll be wanting to use those anymore given they're willing to comply with AV laws now..
Thoughts? This is looking like something similar to CloverOS except instead of ricing out and customizing Gentoo, it'll be customizing GoboLinux in an effort to make a .iso that's usable out of the box and doesn't require two weeks worth of compiling and configing..
