2) people helping others is good news indeed.

That's not a long time at all compared to other nation/cultures.
That's why America is a bugmannish "nation" that has to rely on corporate worship, African worship, and Jew worship (protestantism) to have a semblance of a culture, because they just didn't have enough time to grow an organic traditional culture of their own.
