It's time to revive this place

You need to add something to make it more unique. Right now it's just /g/ but without shilling and moderation making bait threads, but that's not enough - you need something special.
I understand that you wanted a place for some kind of enlightened people to write 5 thousand word essays about everything but those people just dump their shit on 4chan once a blue moon and won't bother with your forum.
I see there is a list of cracked servers in the Connect section, how about you make that the "main thing" and leave the forum for discussing those servers? Surely there is a lot of people who want to play multiplayer games but hate steam yet can't find a server to join or an accessible community around it.

How would you make it the "main thing"? the page is kind of already pretty visible

admin_ - Oct 8 at 14:43:15 #51958

Isn't the site new?
Has it already been very alive?

Piggybacking off of the first reply. I've experimented with several concepts for an updated home page, but I seriously do not like any of 'em. What specifically are you looking for? I need you to hone in on what you want.

The current home page is simple and direct. The primary focus right now is to look at the articles, and maybe financially support the site. The user should naturally gravitate towards the rest of the site given the left navbar (Home, Forums, Connect, etc) is kind of the only other thing that's there, but that is obviously not good enough if the site needs to center more on cracked and libre game servers and services than just the articles.

If we take the primary focus OFF of the articles and replace them with servers, we also take away from the first things that newcomers will see. The three featured articles are fundamental for getting a basic idea as to what this place is and why it exists.

I have attempted to compromise with the one that I think looks best and also accomplishes what I believe you're looking for.

Let me know if this works.

In my opinion, you should spend some time thinking about the rules for this forum, and then enforce them automatically, rather than going through all the threads and posts individually and thinking "should this be removed?"

And maybe there should be a "News" subsection where threads can be just a link and a one-liner, but they're banned in the rest of the forum.

add something more popular to the server list like
minecraft beta 1.7.3
left 4 dead 2

once you have games people actually play on there you should advertise them

The site overall is already improving at a good rate just let posts and posters organically gather bro

Anonymous - Oct 9 at 02:36:08 #51970

>just let posts and posters organically gather bro
that and also letting people who are into these kinds of places know about cyberix. i've told my tech buddies about this place and look forward to some intellectual tech sperging threads soon

Anonymous ## MOD - Oct 11 at 13:16:07 #52065

purge time, im going to soft delete all of the blatant bait and bullshit real quick let me know what you think when im done

Anonymous ## MOD - Oct 11 at 13:55:07 #52069

that's a good start for us right now. also edited the R9K config to be a bit more aggressive. next site update will give us more powerful mod utilities for handling threads better and more auto-antispam utilities

this might sound bad but i think we need to restrict tor users a bit more. not a fan of walking into a thread and seeing it coated with niggerspam from one guy hopping nodes and sending a new message roughly every minute and 7 seconds. i think a global cooldown for all users would be nice instead. a 2 minute cooldown between posting should work well. no fucking effortposter is going to type out something good several times within 2 minutes

Anonymous ## MOD - Oct 11 at 14:01:55 #52071

i'm also going to delete some of the more shittier articles, i think rewriting them now given that they're months old would help us in the long run, especially the open call article

Anonymous ## MOD - Oct 11 at 14:07:13 #52072

from around the forum:

>Hedgewars, freeciv, openTTD
>0A.D
>minecraft beta 1.7.3
>left 4 dead 2

these servers will be hosted soon although I don't get the point of hosting yet another minecraft server. also don't know how we'd play l4d2 without steam

Slightly unrelated, but could an admin consider adding pages instead of the infinite scrolling on a topic? And a PHP search implementation.

Anonymous - Oct 12 at 00:45:58 #52112

> infinite scrolling on a topic?
But that isn't infinite scrollling. Infinite scrolling is infinite. Cyberix's just all of the posts being loaded all at once. Every single imageboard does this, too. I think pages would be an inherent downgrade to the topic viewer because it'd cause most topics to be at most 2 pages where the second page consists of like one or two posts. itd be very jarring
