quake is beyond an e-sport, it is a straight up SPORT. the mouse is your tennis racket, and the average sens is 30 cm to spin a 360 degree circle, some go higher, some go lower, depending on their playstyle. and if you don't play every day, you start getting rusty real quick

us quakers view the randomness in the spawns like the weather, sometimes you get fucked over by the wind on a field goal, sometimes you get a 50 yard one, and as far as the RNG on the starting weapons go, they suck on purpose, get a real fucking weapon

there are so many objective numbers in this game that mean something

>hitscan acc, projecticle acc means nothing because they're zone control tools, and shotty acc means nothing because it's a cleanup tool
>damage dealt and damage taken, and also net damage (damage dealt-damage taken)
>damage per weapon, representing your playstyle, are you a railwhore, are you shafting them to death, or are you pummeling them with direct rockets
>total number of kills per weapon, representing the circumstances of the cleanup
>total numbers of armor and mega picked up, representing your control, and sometimes you see games where one player is shitting on them on net damage but the other player has all the items, so it's even game
>and of course the fragline, and that's what the frothing zoomers don't seem to understand, is that only a minor skill discreprancy can result in a 30 to -1 blowout, and the map variance can result in totally different values of what a close game or a blowout looks like

Quake live killed quake because it completely killed the modding scene for quake 3 and locked everything behind Steam. Duels also suck and had a hand in killing Quake-style arena shooters but that's more of a personal opinion. >also just noticed that Cyberix has Openarena and xonotic servers, very nice.

What about CONI?

[AutoMod] action=keep R:8 E:4 N:2 C:10 | Partially relevant to thread topic (personal experience with Quake 3), but repeats common frustration about modding instability. Short but adds a specific context (switching to CS).

Nah, not on my machine. Had to ditch quake 3 on my 3.5ghz i7 after a few months because the mods kept breaking or getting outdated. Just switched to CS and never looked back.

[AutoMod] action=keep R:10 E:2 N:0 C:10 | Directly compares Quake engine to Crysis engine, though it lacks depth and doesn’t address the thread’s broader context (e.g., Quake’s legacy, modding, or community impact).

quake engine > crysis engine
