Server costs

14 USD per month is way too much for such a small website.

On Hetzner (for example) you can get PHP webhosting for 1.6 EUR (includes Varnish, making it very fast), seemingly with all required features for this site.

Something doesn't make sense...

If it's for running all the other services, those costs should be split from running the Cyberix website.

its all on one server, the donation goal is for everything

>>3800

Still should only cost 3.5 EUR on Hetzner.

Yeah it seems very excessive. I pay 2 Euros a month for 150 GB of storage webhosting (75gb web 75gb mail) and it would definately suffice for a website like this, until the site gets more activity.

Also, nadeko.net (provides many front ends, e.g. invidious) pays less

Okay but if you aren't just hosting a website, then it's actually pretty reasonable. I pay almost $30 a month for a ddos-protected server with 1TB of storage and a number of services, with support that makes the price worth it.

Hetzer has terrible service, is German, and would probably terminate a service like this in seconds if we said certain things. The German part should be enough to never consider it.

apologist without an argument

why?

Just say ou didn't fucking read my post, you dented gollum. If your takeaway is that I'm overpaying, I hope you never host a service people actually use. They'll be royally disappointed.

Germany is a censorship hell. There are things you can just say and get arrested for, which means companies based there have to act on those things for their services. It's illegal to deny the holocaust in Germany for instance. All it takes is someone to post about the holocaust being fake and then report your site to german authorities. It took 4 hours between post and termination. All the data gone, no appeal, no investigation. I'm not speaking out my fucking ass here, this is something I experienced.

Hetzner is geuinely a trash one in comparison to any other german provider. They have horrible support that won't respond to you for weeks and it'll be something dumb and that you already tried or some shit. Getting terminated by them was the best thing to happen for me. Just a bunch of idiots who are running shit from the dump and hoping to leach your wallet as long as it shows your precious HTML page.

If you genuinely want a decent site that won't croak the minute more than 100 people access it as the same time, somewhere to run game servers or other communication services, then you shouldn't be paying less than a fucking candy bar for it. The server I run alone is $8, the 1TB storage sets me back $15, and the rest are add-ons that I need and rely on, many that have saved me from headaches.

I'm not overpaying, you're just paying for complete shit.

1tb storage web server for 30 or Netflix and Spotify, I'd choose the former.

>>3825
ez, don't deny the holocaust

also, don't need 1TB for the services or website

feel free to keep it as is, but if (or rather when) Cyberix dies due to being underfunded, at least you've been warned in advance for using such overpriced services

Also, if Germany is wrong for censorship reasons, pick one of the better countries by freedom of the press, ideally one that also speaks good English.

Maybe Dutch, Danish, or Irish.

You must be retarded, because this entirely misses the point. I didn't have to post shit. I went to sleep, and wake up to my server wiped. Regardless, censorship of any kind is a slippery fucking slope. Are you really comfortable hosting in a place where for any reason, they may choose to wipe your shit because of something they dislike? Germany is infamous for that. Hosting providers also are anti-privacy BY LAW. Meaning if anybody posts anything to your site, the hosting provider has to keep logs and information on everything about that person. If you are still telling me "just don't post things germany doesn't like" then keep paying a few dollars for your slop garbage.

> also, don't need 1TB for the services or website
Who the fuck said you needed 1TB, because I never did. I mentioned why my server costs as much as it did. That's all.

>>3880
Cyberix would have been dead long ago if it went cheapskate and paid nothing for hosting like you want it to. It would have been mostly inaccessible with high ping times and spuratic availability. That's what you get out of germany hosting shit. I don't know what stupid alternate reality you are from, but $14 is pretty fucking reasonable given the games Cyberix hosts, the ping, and the fact I've never had this shit load slow in my web browser.

>>3881
Not only are there no providers that have some cheap prices out of Germany like you guys want, but this bullshit you linked from Wikipedia has no relevance. Did I mention it is completely bullshit? Literally anything in the EU is crazy censorship and anti-privacy. If you're hosting a public forum and discussionm place, this has no relevance.

Literally the best place to host a server with the least amount of censorship and the most amount of privacy legally is the US. Not only does the US have amendments that ensure you as an individual have that freedom, but they also have laws that state you as the operator cannot get into trouble for something posted by someone else. Of course, you have to still find a service that is reasonable within those limits (thus my $30) but you won't find any of that anywhere else in the world, only if you're trying to operate shit illegally.

Uh also self hosting is an option for sure

>>3886
It's a damn good option if you can manage it. You'd need a good ISP, reliable power (or a UPS), and a good server. It's cheaper in the long run than a hosting provider but in a lot of circumstances, it's an inaccessible option. I live in the middle of nowhere so my internet service is shit, and my power is shittier. I just can't reliably host a decent connection here.

Some individual countries in the EU might be, but not all are.
Most obvious would be the UK, but they're not part of the EU anymore...

"Source? Source? Source?"
Fucking go look this shit up yourself, pussy. It ain't hard. Very easy to fucking claim bullshit when you haven't experienced the shithand they deal yourself. Stop trying to scam people already. Your shit-tier google results are just a tab away.

hetzner is for wankers

>>3887
well to be fair 14 bucks isnt bad. but i think you should for sure also host some other shit bro, if storage space and bandwidth allows. e.g. a 4get (search) instance, invidious maybe, or literally any other useful service. its always better to use all the hosting storage and capabilities you've got

You can also go with a Swiss company for just 2.7 EUR

"Developing technological independence in Europe. Without compromising on ecology, privacy or people."

Kyun/Crunchbit was incredibly unstable for us for an extended period of time, prompting us to move over to a different hosting provider.

>>3893
You just have anecdotal evidence, being your own experience.
But just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone will have a bad experience.

> look it up yourself
You're making the claim, the burden of proof is on you.
