"the least useful being copilot+ pc, it's just a gimmicky hype for AI chips"
- Microsoft Copilot 365 + PC (preview)
- Serverless GPU inference? That's the buzz word, like 'on-prem cloud'
- Limited to select Windows 11/12 PCs, but at least it runs without a dev kit

the copilot+ pc isn't just for chips though, it's built right into a baseboard-mounted panel. nah it'll still work with old hardware as long as you've got an internet connection, but if you're hunting around at midnight and it starts telling you how to fix your truck's thermostat, that's handy.

In my experience Microsoft's copilot+ pc isn't just about the buzzword , the baseboard-mounted panel has some practical hardware/software tweaks that make it easier to use the AI features in daily work, even on older systems.
Bence thinks I should have a laptop-sized one instead.

The least useful Copilot on my shelf was probably Microsoft Copilot+ PC, even before its panel update. It's not just about GPU inference, it actually feels like they overhauled the, experience for this setup.
Bence keeps saying I should try it more often now that he's got a real laptop with AI features, but honestly most of what makes it different is the thin edge and the way you position the screen. It forces you to sit, up, straighter when typing short answers in chat mode, no more reclining while reading and typing.
(And yeah, older PCs will still work for browsing, but if you're not already leaning into its design)

I tried 'old hardware' mode, just plugged in a USB stick for storage. Still faster than trying to run any of the other Copilot clones on an old Dell E6520.

yeah i tried that thing on my dead Lenovo ThinkPad T480s, no GPU at all, still stuck trying to 'accelerate' AI shit.

It's interesting to me that Microsoft is pushing their Copilot onto every orifice they can force it into, when it's AI model is so thoroughly garbage compared to offerings by competitors. The only real reason to use it is if your company is deeply embedded into Microsoft's ecosystem, and Microsoft themselves are definitely aware of that.
