Cyberix Operational Overhaul Proposal
It's simple.
1 - Can't view most forums without a password. Every single part of the website except for maybe one specialized forum is password-locked.
2 - Can't join the comms without a password.
3 - You can join the game servers without a password.
You are given a password. You use it to access the website. You are now given your own unique password that you can give to other people to log in. The password to the comms is revealed.
You will likely be given the password by people who know about Cyberix and are already in it. It is assumed that most people will come from getting a password while playing in the game servers.
cy-x.net's overall layout will be overhauled to resemble the structural layout of the Frost messageboard program.
Most of Cyberix's other pages can likely be condensed and turned into boards. Links could just become a board or a thread within a board. The Home page would likely just be merged with the Forum board because it serves no good purpose.
The existing sidebar would likely be put into its own page merged with Connect. Or maybe condensed into a top bar.
This is just us reinventing the private BBS and IRC, which has worked for decades. It will work for Cyberix as well.

We could also deploy a webchat on this overhauled Cyberix under its own tab.
So, now, if you don't have a password, all you can do is:
Forums: You can read whatever public boards are available, which will likely be one or two. I'll allow you to post anonymously as well. I'll finally put AutoMod into Phase 2 where it can autonomously nuke bad posts on public boards, too.
Webchat: You can chat with whoever else is on the webchat. This will not be bridged to IRC/XMPP/Mumble/SSH since they will be password locked.
Connect: You can play on any game server just as you were able to before. No changes here.
I have no real plans on "well, what if the password gets leaked". You'd have to know where to find that leaked password in order to get in. That alone continues to solve most of our problems (bots) and nothing is stopping me from recycling the passwords anyway
I am doing this because I have, for the most part, lost interest in attracting new users. While this kind of high entry barrier might instead turn away curious lurkers, our current open model wasn't retaining users (low activity) and we've only been receiving spam and garbage as a consequence. This does not remove our completely anonymous posting. I plan on establishing a public board in this new forum that will allow you to post as free as you were able to post before.

So this rework is supposed to solve the bot problem and gradually gather good users over a period of time, correct?
What does QA even do?
