If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.

You guys should make a ss13 server.

Inform us:
What is SS13? Windows&Linux? Any DRM that needs to be bypassed? Any issues in general that should be taken into consideration?

ss13 is rather infested with tranny ideologies, for whatever that is worth.

ss13 stands for space station 13. It is an intricate roleplay game that is also a sandbox of sorts. You and other players are on board of a space station. You are meant to keep it functional for as long as possible, but it will inevitably spiral into crisis (which is fun).

There are civilians who do stuff like grow crops to feed the station, janitors to keep it clean, medical staff to stop people from dying, scientists to create cool stuff, you get the gist.

There are antagonist roles, which serve to sabotage the station, you have changelings, nuke operatives, malfunctioning AI, blob and traitor.
I can't do it justice by just talking about it, so you should definetly look it up if you are interested (I recommend you watch channels like Livrah, Bill Steven, Dirk McBlade and He Will Always Be A Griefer on Youtube to get an idea of what the game is all about). It is true that most servers have been overtaken by trannies, furries and fags, but the good news is that it is possible to set up your own server with your own rules. Technically you can just pick any codebase and host a game, but customizing it will require actual coding. All codebases are different because they are the product of different communities coming together and adding things to whatever branch theirs originated from.

>Windows&Linux?
Windows only. You can host a server using Linux but there is no Linux client and works poorly on WINE.

I wholeheartedly agree. The game has a big open-source community but in many ways lacks servers that have a non-furfag playerbase. I would absolutely play a Cyberix (Matrix/Terminator-inspired? One can only hope.) SS13 server.

Putting some cyberpunk elements into this game would be fun, I second this.

I have a (somewhat) fixed up copy of the 2016 goon release. We could piggyback their unique CLI computer system (other codebases treat computers as dumb GUI terminals that only interact with other machines) and make some cool jobs befitting of our demographic. Anyone have any cool ideas for this?

/vm/station is not a bad choice, I had fun playing on their server before the /vg/ general migrated to their board.
Heres some repositories of codebases I like/liked:

https://github.com/discordia-space/CEV-Eris - wiki.cev-eris.com - Takes place on a massive spaceship with obscure nooks and crannies to find horrible things in. Radically different mechanics from normal SS13, all very tightly balanced that made for awesome rounds. Absolutely hate the artstyle they have though (and I especially hate that every other codebase copied after them).

https://github.com/Yonaguni/EuropaStation - Sealab 2021, just with sentient octopodes. Unfortunately dead since 2018.

https://github.com/yogstation13/Yogstation/ - My favorite /tg/ downstream server, keep in some fun features TG coders axed such as NTSL and nanites. It died two years ago though and hasnt been updated since.

https://github.com/DaedalusDock/daedalusdock - Interesting /tg/ fork with lots of ported bay12 and goonstation mechanics alongside removal of the science department. The main dev of it is really annoying though (also a furry).

https://github.com/seekin4u/EscalationByMio - Cold War wargame made on top of SS13, pretty fun when I played it back in 2019. The git repo I linked is an very outdated version, no clue where you could find an updated one.

[AutoMod] action=keep R:8 E:8 N:7 C:8 | This is a solid, detailed response to the thread. It clearly outlines specific, technical modifications for a simulation server. The ideas are well-developed and directly address the implied request effectively.
Been thinking about it, and I think Ill just take the goon2016 copy I have and try to make something out of it. Here is what Im going to try and implement:

Power voltage and substations, alongside changing APCs into circuit breakers and making machines need a physical wire connection to the powergrid.
Add a telephone system.
Take away PDAs and headsets from most jobs, give people handheld radios and pagers and make them use phone calls and intercomms more in order to communicate and organize.
Improve the gas simulation system, either by updating to a newer version of goons FEA or using the early ZAS system licensed to D2K5.
The return of centralized atmospherics pumping out air for the map.
New map so I dont have to ruin the beauty of cogmap2 while adding all this.
Computer programming.
Changing cyborgs/robots to be programmable and use a modular ability system instead of a class based loadout system.
Factory manager job, program robots and conveyor belts to make shit.
Bring back chemists.
Realistic pod movement.
Machine construction system, able to include or exclude certain allowed parts in order to control certain tasks.

Some more nebulous ideas Im not so sure on:
Psionics.
Remote control robot bodies.
Rework mining+smelting (shipbreakers?).
Science department rework.
Modular food.
Captain loses supreme authority, has to work with others.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions or objections to these?

Add cargonian revs as antag
Make the new factory feature work like factorio
Make that the Hos can overthrow the captain if the majority agrees
Add philosophies and make the captain choose between them
Remove furry races (or make it unchoosable)
Add station factions
Add yellow dog race for the jannies
Remember you do it for free

more interesting to make the furries exclusively antags, not sure what their actual goals would be though

>Add cargonian revs as antag
So revolution?
>Make the new factory feature work like factorio
Thats the intent! Im intending for factory products to drift from material intake, to printers, to the fitters to robot arms for assembly, and then finally to some crate for export or station use. You as the factory manager program the robots to create the products, having the machines process items correctly, and getting belt timing right.
>Make that the Hos can overthrow the captain if the majority agrees
Probably would work better as a dedicated mutiny gamemode, antag heads of staff vying for power.
>Add philosophies and make the captain choose between them
Can you elaborate on this? What effects do you want this to have on the round?
>Remove furry races (or make it unchoosable)
2016 goon has no furry races, or alien races at all for that matter. Just humans.
>Add station factions
These are just the different departments.
>Add yellow dog race for the jannies
Sprite the pet and ill add it to their closet.
>Remember you do it for free
But my salary is $0.00 an hour, how can I be doing it for free when I get a paycheck every week?
