[AutoMod] action=keep R:9 E:8 N:7 C:8 | This is a well-articulated critique of the current state of the tech industry. It sparks good discussion about utility versus monetization in software development.

I have been a dev for 25 years. Large sections of industry is in a state of delusion. We have 3 million android apps and 2.99 million of them are useless trash. A large sections of the industry is based on advert revenue and because it shows so much adverts over the years now to make the internet usable everyone runs an avert blocker. So there goes the revenue stream. In the game industry in 2024 there was 85,000 new titles released to steam how do you pick a game to play?
A big problem with the industry is there was a time where people used programming/tech to improve / solve real world problems like CRM apps or stock ordering and distribution systems. A lot of these problems are solved and its difficult to improve further. Robotics, factories, automation is where your meet reality and do something useful.

What seems to be happening now is tech is the "problem" rather than the solution. For example in London areas you need about 18 apps installed just to park your car. You don't need an app for car insurance, home insurance, life insurance. You need a website, contract and a phone number... Somehow npm has 3.1million packages of a mixed mess of javascript covered in security holes and it prides its self as if this is a good thing.
