What causes this weird mindset of needing constant updates?

I've noticed this weird modern trend with games but especially with programs, where if it stops receiving updates then people abandon it. You can see this right now with the whole Windows 10 => Windows 11 fiasco going on right now.
In realworld engineering, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rules the day. I think it's the fact that every low-tier poojeet or newfag-tier dev thinks they understand something better than the actual engineers, and so want to """plus""" it. And normalcattle who even care think this is a good thing too?
This probably leads to some kind of destructive niggerlicious-cycle of "if its broken, break it some more!111"
Or something like that.
It's a method for big tech companies to go and make you install a few GBs or MBs of bloat, either them adding one single line or one changing a few hex-values to prevent cheaters (on some games) from having their cheats working.
A form of consumerism, I call it update culture. I've written a whole rant about it myself: https://www.tastyfish.cz/lrs/update_culture.html.

Nice site, but pushing on archive.org the responsibility to keep your site accessible is unfair. Why not keep hosting the static version of the site yourself, even if you want to hide the most recent version?

Interesting that you made me jump through hoops to even view this article, but unrelated to that you are so fucking deranged holy moly
