Did this board even exist before the overhaul?
Who asked for the most braindead, irrelevant, and generic goyslop boomer news - that you can find an endless amount of by going on any news site or turning on the TV or radio - such as
>11 skydivers and pilot killed in plane crash near Kansas City
>Woman, 21, dies during bungee jump in Brazil after 'staff forget to attach cord'
Whatever the usecase for Cyberix we're supposed to find, I'm sure it's not being a boomer goyslop news mirror site.

No.

It's not meant to mirror traditional news outlets 24/7. It is meant to be a board for topics and information that are generally news-oriented.
Being a 1:1 mirror site is not Cyberix's use case. This is why we have other boards.

I agree. The news board is more annoying than useful. I'd like not to be exposed to fear-mongering and become conformed with the evil things that happen all around in the world. We all know who controls the media, and if you don't you can still look it up and quickly find out who's behind. Don't let them shape your world views, don't let them blind and mislead you.
Honestly, now I want that news board to be completely gone, it's pure cancer and goyslop. No one gives a fuck about who jumped without a rope and who can't control the plane.

ok, but a video of a woman paying money to get thrown off a bridge by three brazillian guys is pretty funny, even if its an irrelevant tragedy

PEOPLE
LISTEN

I talked to the guy who made that thread and told him that news like this just don't belong on something like Cyberix.
This screenshot was his response

I'm guessing he's implying we shouldn't trust large companies, with that context in mind, it's easier to understand why he posted that in this place.

I see.

i think a good point along those lines would be to not trust the employees of a seemingly reputable company, judged so by Google search, an LLM, or a travel agency using the formers, to ensure your personal safety, because the employees and the company are protected, to some degree, behind liability waivers, insurance contracts, and other legal assurances

while it may seem alarmist to declare or imply that your fellow man can no longer be trusted to dutifully fulfill his tasks as ordained by his middle manager, modern people live so passively in this frictionless world that they blindly assume, without challenge, that everything will proceed as advertised, including the employees charged with tossing you over a cliff, as they have done a thousand times before

do not assume the "well oiled machine" will continue to work just because the sticker touts its ninety-eight-and-three-quarters percent guarantee.
all the systems which alleviate personal accountability, from the thrill seeker to the gaggle of browns committing manslaughter, and even you, have one goal: to ensure their continued existence, by any means necessary. whether its manipulating people by abusing cutting-edge behavioral psychology to make them more impulsive and less informed; breaking employees' autonomy by making them perform the same, simple tasks thousands of times to the point where throwing someone off of a cliff isn't novel enough for the rope-placer, whose only job may be to place the rope on the ground in front of the person-throwers, to care about the rope being unattached before it's too late; the news agencies and journalists bringing you this highly informative story of human tragedy so you won't find yourself in all these ridiculous, unlikely scenarios and dare repeat history twice; even the "thrill experience" industry, for lack of a better term, having another death and widespread news story under their belt as they assure their new customers how safe they are compared to this tragedy. all these systems perform cruel and inhumane acts, by no individual choice or realization, to further their position in whatever domain they occupy

it would be even funnier if these brazillians were just some guys off the street she paid 25 bucks to chuck her over the edge, but i'm not reading the news story to find out. in trying to find the video, however, what i found most repulsive was the only pictures of the woman being slutty onlyfans-style photos. i don't know which is worse, a woman having no decent photos of herself on her social media profile, or the news agencies choosing suggestive photos of a dead woman to keep readers' attention

The news board's actual content as of right now is heavily skewed toward meta-internet and surveillance topics. The occasional "normie" news item is an outlier at the moment and doesn't represent the entire board. "News" can be anything that you consider news.

For example, remember when Debian's new Project Leader was sworn in because they were the only option on their voting form? That's a form of news. How about Google apparently nuking their last bit of true search and replacing it with complete Gemini domination? That's a form of news, too. These are both in the realm of technology rather than the real world, but that doesn't invalidate the core concept of it being "news" of some kind.

This applies inversely, because there are inherent genres of news and this board is for people who find news that they find interesting and want to talk about it somewhere or believe other people may benefit in some way, shape or form from hearing about it.

Now, if this board starts getting flooded with nothing BUT generic boomer-tier garbage, *then* I'll consider cracking down on it. But right now, I think we should all give this time to simmer before coming to a solid conclusion.

This is exactly what I thought, although this board is indeed being filled with this type of news rather than any Linux / Technology related news

You should make a thread about that Debian leadership change. I think it will be an actual good thread rather than this garbage

yp22, I think you should make your own board and moderate it yourself. That, or contribute "better" news from your point of view. The admin is opting for an organic evolution. I don't understand why you're in such a hurry to push your own agenda.
