For a long time I used one of those early "modern dumbphones", the battery life on idle was unironically around 1 month.
When it broke and I started looking for a new one, I bought like 5 different ones trying to get one with similar battery life, but to no avail. Such a phone just doesn't seem to exist anymore, the absolute maximum is about 2 weeks no matter what phone you buy. At least that's what I thought.
I started looking into why this is the case, and turns out it's because of 4G and 5G networks, the phone has to do much more work to operate on those. You can prove this by not putting in a sim card so it can't connect to a network, the battery will miraculously last for an entire month again. But as soon as you let it connect to the network, the battery life plummets to 1-2 weeks.

Despite 5G covering all the same lower frequency bands LTE does and using them the 5G core wants to keep your phone on the 4-6Ghz usually which is much worse on battery.
