I’m not afraid of a crackdown on the Western internet. I mean, how bad could it really get? Worse than in China? Hardly. The internet in China is actually quite free; you can easily access 4chan and even Cyberix from there. The (Western) internet is already extremely restricted, and the flow of information is controlled. Since Snowden, we’ve known that privacy is just a meme anyway, so what exactly is supposed to change? Why is there such panic being spread when nothing is actually changing?

Companies and advertizers can't tell who's real and not, hence the digital ID. Then they take your money (taxes) to buy your data. You could hace a hifher real wage if we put more resoyrces on production instead of marketing. This is one issue out of many.
Another is, when everyone uses digital ID, you get banned from one platform then all other services requiring it can ban you as well and you can't blame impersonator. This can extend to banking and other stuff affecting real life, such as job searching.
China already experienced the issue of this restrictive system, how it killed creativity, work, motivation, and innovation. The difference is that the west will celebrate it for causing us to become carbon neutral or something. It will take longer for the west to recover. Imagine china 20 years ago, that's what we risc our society becoming, but instead of development like China has had we will stay in that state and maybe even get into worse state for 20 years.
