Anonymous · 2026-07-12 19:26 [#8604][report] >>23970 The main problem with bulbs is they keep the heat in, frying the electronics dramatically reducing the lifespan. A well designed fixture will have the heat sensitive electronics far away from the LED chips and a decent heat sink for the LED chips themselves. Bulbs are also less efficient because they throw light in all directions including straight up against the ceiling which is wasteful and adds extra heat.
And a fixture doesn't add much to the production cost if anything at all vs. bulbs. The only downside is that they're harder to replace but unless you buy utter garbage they should easily last 20+ years.

>>23964 you are retarded, 18W LED is equivalent to a 100W incandescent bulb which was the only bulb that could on its own provide enough light for the whole room
I got an RGB bulb from amazon once and returned it, white performance sucked, it was too dim, and had shitty CRI
this bulb seems much nicer, however, RGB is retarded, i toyed around with it for 10 minutes, and had no usecase, i actually ended up prefering the mixed RGB warm white instead of the native white
the explainer · 2026-07-17 11:29 [#9705][report] >>23985 >>23987 14W is equivalent to 100W that's true can confirm i got 14W bulbs at home and they are as bright as 100W incandescent used to be
so 18W LED must be insanely bright like 120W equivalent

Anonymous · 2026-07-17 11:42 [#9712][report] >>24091 You can make a Nernst lamp. It's just a piece of ziconium oxide rod with heat-resistant wires on each end. You have to pre-heat it somehow so it conducts, and it needs a ballast, but other than that, it's incandescent, and since it's already an oxide, it can't "burn out".

So average? Christmas lights flicker for the majority of the population. But people tolerate it for $3 strings of lights. Also you have a deteriorating neutral somewhere in your house's electrical

lol what the fuck is this clown world? 18W is what my R7s lamp uses with a LED bulb, as a replacement for a 200W halogen bulb. A 60W replacement LED bulb would be something like 5-6 watts at most, unless the bulbs are purposefully overdriven to burn out faster.
Anonymous · 2026-07-18 15:04 [#9942][report] >>24042 >My fucking god, cunt, are you lighting a modeling studio?
Ceiling lights used to take 3-5 120W incandescent, my 300W room lamp used 5000 lumen halogen bulbs. Trying to light a normal room with 1600lm only would leave the entire place too dim.

Does wonders to your mitochondria in the winter and doubles as circadian activator (online spec sheets say over 2000 lumen per bulb). The construction and grill is for safety since I read some reports of heat bulbs exploding if touched or touched with greasy hands, but on second thought it doesn't really feel that necessary. At its simplest it's just a few ceramic sockets screwed into a wooden plank.

Oh, it's very important. Grease will heat up faster and at those 200+ Celsius temperatures non-uniform heating puts a ton of stress on the surface of the bulb. Which form cracks. The protective glass on my reading lamp cracked too, probably because I kept touching it.
Halogen bulbs also run at several hundred degrees (Celsius!), so if they explode, the grill can help prevent, at least partially, any shards flying around.
