[AutoMod] action=keep R:9 E:8 N:7 C:9 | The post offers a thoughtful counter-argument to a common critique of online creativity. The writing is engaging and well-reasoned, directly engaging with the thread's philosophy.

>Creative people are not creative because they use discord or shitter. Creative communities are not creative because they have an official discord chatroom or social media accounts. You are literally doing cargo cultism.
Not what I said. Creative people are creative because they are selfless enough to let themselves be vulnerable and share a piece of themselves online. People have hobbies and do things in life. They have experiences and do things they enjoy. It should not be so difficult to ask for people to simply post about things that interest them, things they've done, things they've made, experienced, etc. This is apparently a true rarity in the alt-tech space. Over in the Bubble, however, it's actually the exact OPPOSITE story, to an extreme. Normals will overshare everything about their lives. They have no privacy. They love sharing everything. They will talk constantly about their day and tell everybody who and what specifically they are as a person and will not go a single minute without posting something that tech literate people would find compromising to one's privacy and security.
>And furthermore, technological purism did make this website more interesting or at least, a lack of purism will make it generic and less appealing.
I'm speaking from a logical, straightforward perspective. I do not care for what is essentially moralfagging about muh proprietary platforms/spyware. Chances are, you're in possession of a smartphone. You know what it means to compromise.
Hosting select protocols and games is not a reliable way to attract people. It is not a reliable way to maintain people. There is no worth in the 750th forum, altchan etc that prides itself on... hosting an IRC/XMPP/Mumble server? A few.. games..? Things that were pretty standard 15-20 years ago? That's not fucking unique.
That's not new or cool. Thinking it is any bit of unique and radical puts you in the same position as the nostalgiafagging zoomers. A forum full of people complaining about Internet/Culture/Software/etc is not impressive. It is not creative. That needs to be balanced out. You can't fucking have that all the time. It is intellectual masturbation. I don't care for it.
Discord is temporary. It is not built to last. The bridge is temporary. It is not built to last. It is a form of onboarding. It appears, however, purists are not interested in playing the long-game. I want to play the long-game and experiment. The purists act like it's a death sentence.
I've seen technologically impressive projects, communities and cultures trapped inside Discord servers. Discord is not small. It holds a variety of peoples. To ignore this is simply an acknowledgment of what I have been trying to convey here.
>I think that many people would randomly check this website, see that it has a Discord, and think "*sigh*, this is just another generic Agora Road zoomer LARP website that serves as the storefront for a Discord circlejerk" and leave.
Ok. They are close-minded and instinctively shutdown whenever they see something conflicting with their purism. Very well.
They do not care about what I have in mind. They are free to circlejerk in their private IRC rooms accomplishing nothing.
Oh man, everything is so bad nowadays, I can't believe it! But, I will NEVER, EVER stop using the compromised Internet. And I will never EVER contribute to the community I am in to any substantial degree. I will, however, post EDGY MAYMAYS, NIGGER, maybe some HENTAI and some MORE BITCHING on top of that.
My eyes are set on opening new avenues and expanding reach out into the Bubble. FOSS projects, modding communities, game communities and everything else in that sphere has been for the most part taken over by Discord. I am interested in attracting that crowd. I do not see any more hope here when it comes to sitting with the purists. The purists have had about a year to show their work and they have given me very little.
>And by the way, it's funny that you're still strawmanning the robonigger question.
Chat was dead for three entire days before Sunglocto dropped that bot in. I don't give a fuck about what you have to say about the AI bot anymore. The purists came back only when they had found something new to complain about.
I understand both sides. I understand the purists completely. I actually agree with what they have to say. Unfortunately for me, however, the purists are performative and do absolutely fucking nothing.
In execution, they are no different from the nostalgiafagging zoomers who keep complaining. They won't stop complaining. They don't want to do anything about it. They love the state of things. They don't want to contribute. Therefore, I am going to act in the pursuit of the goals that I've had for this website since day 1. If the steps I'm currently taking in order to achieve that goal do not work out like they intend to, then I will simply shift my approach.
I am constantly observing. I am monitoring things very closely. If things do not turn out to be the way I want them to be then I will act accordingly. This pragmatic quality appears to be absent in everyone across the board. They are satisfied with stagnation.
I want this place to grow. How many of you have a soul? Do you think I'm kidding or joking whenever I say "I want Cy-X.net and friends (Consisting of folk here who have their own websites, projects and so on who also use Cy-X.net in the same way) to be a COMPLETELY SELF SUFFICIENT COMMUNITY with it's own UNIQUE CULTURE AND PROJECTS"? What exactly do you think I mean when I say "Isolated Internet Node" in the chatrooms?
The expectation is that eventually I will no longer use the broader Internet outside of the Cyberix sphere. But I cannot do that alone. You cannot be self sufficient without builders willing to maintain it alongside you.
Most if not all alt-tech spaces that claim to hate the "modern web" fall apart because they're reliant on inputs from the Bubble in order to maintain the straw houses that they've built up. What do you think would happen if they were suddenly isolated from the Bubble? The motherfuckers who sat there doing nothing but bitching and wasting time... I think they'd segfault.
These purists bitch about the city 24/7 and are coping by changing all of the light bulbs in their little apartment to orange-colored LEDs, refusing to actually do anything that'd get them closer to actually moving out of there. Illusion. They've scared themselves into constant negativity and isolation. These are fake motherfuckers who are apparently incapable of sharing anything.
How many of you actually *want* freedom? Do any of you actually know what a self sufficient community even is? Everything I describe here applies to real life, too, actually.
I came to the conclusion that I have no other option. I cannot continue to satisfy the diehard purists. Doing nothing does not satisfy them, and acting in pursuit of satisfying them does not satisfy them, and they have refused to satisfy me or work in the pursuit of strengthening this node.
Therefore, only my mindset has shifted. My goal has not changed and it has never changed. I am taking the steps I believe I need to take in order to accomplish the goal accordingly. Only my personal observations have led me to this conclusion.
If you do not like it, then you are free to remain enveloped in illusion&forever stagnated. I am not closing any doors nor am I kicking anybody out. I know what I have in mind and I know what I need to do.
