Are we just suppose to sacrifice more and more of our limited resources for the so called technological singularity or AGI? Just for the fringe chance it will even make our live marginally better? But we can't even stop it because our economy is overly reliant on technological progress and financial investment in the field. So how is this any different from making offerings to the gods so we can have a good harvest?

if successful the rich can entirely segregate from the poor in perpetuity, that's the idea. it's not so poors can get better healthcare or reduce workload or make the world better. see companies cutting staff despite lack of increase in productivity and still adamantly utilising AI.
