My state did. This connected car shit is literally illegal now. Everybody I know who's bought a car in the past year is pissed because all the phone features they were sold on like remote start don't work due to our state banning telemetry in cars.

>don't connect device to the internet
Unfortunately on modern cars that's rarely even an option, unless you physically disabled the cellular transmitter.

if i have physical access to the device then i can make it do whatever the fuck i want. that said, i don't see my shitty little 2010 4 banger car dying in my lifetime anyways so it doesn't matter to me.

I will not switch to an EV until I see a decent jap EV where the digital shitterry is minimal and can run with complete air gap. I will also wait for said EV to get old enough so there are several models already, all problems are known, and there's a healthy second hand market.
Until then I'm staying with my current tuna can on wheels.

nice sequential get, but no state bans telemetry in cars. CA right? They're the only ones with any laws regarding it at all.
post law number

I'm curious, If I were to get one of those Chinese cars like the BYD, would they have those features, or that applies to the Chinese that get those protections.

Or you could just buy a Honda that already works like that. You can disable the screen in a Honda and all the actual car stuff still works fine.

a few cars i've seen, you can disable all of this in the software but nobody bothers to do this so they get fucked up

>>26195
you can. but they still log a lot of stuff with the cars computer. ideally you need to disable the car's antenna and gps. you won't be able to use the car's own navigation system but you don't need it anyway when there's billions of other better solutions. if your car is under warranty and you disable the antennas you can kiss your warranty goodbye - that's how they get people by the balls. that and insurance too.

I don't recall 'mandatory' update being a regulatory req. So it would naturally fix itself with capitalism except some consumers are too retarded and slows the process. Their fault really, but a better car
