Bullshit, Void shields are magic but it's not invincible magic. Enough missiles and it's blasted out of the sky.
>waaah waah more will come
With how shit Imperial FTL is, we can outproduce their initial fleets with nuclear ordnance. The issue would be getting Planet Cracked in return but 40k ships need to arrive at the edge of a system because emotions inside of it make Warp jumps too dangerous, at which point they're hauling ass with sublights for weeks, if not months.
It would be a mostly lost cause in really long run because Imperium at large outproduces Earth my a large factor, but Earth would absolutely bloody the Imperium'a nose.

I am almost certain that crucial state functions like hospitals, the local DMV and library, etc. are actually capable of functioning without politicians. You'll still need a few bureaucrats to just tick a box to keep the budget flowing but not much more. And who's authorising nuclear missiles once earth's leadership is gone? And why?

We’re talking about being able to adequately make a military defense against such a threat. What do hospitals and civil infrastructure et al have to do with it? The pentagon is mostly filled with military and military contractors.

>Who's authorizing.
There are extensive leadership, political and military, succession plans. After a certain level, you start get people who are substantially less and less qualified for such authority.

Besides, it’s a hypothetical, what if nukes were used at first? Perhaps the reaction would be the same. Regardless the premise is that Earth doesn’t comply.

the thing that gets me about space marines is that they're supposed to be these super elite troopers trained to do orbital strikes and special ops shit, but they also have tanks and artillery units that no one else has and entire chapters dedicated to siege warfare. it's like if delta force had a special mlrs just for them that isn't even air droppable and if there was a seal team trained for trench warfare.

Leftovers from when they really were whole armies where hundreds of thousands would be deployed on single campaigns from the great crusade. Nah bro it's because the lore was made by British nerds in the 80's who didn't understand military hardware, they just had basic reference books from the library and a boner for technical-sounding jargon. Like there's no point in trying to justify nonsense that is clearly the result of uninformed creators.

If a codex compliant chapter of 1000 SMs were to invade Earth
>each marine has to police an area roughly equivalent of the State of New York
>a population of 8 million people for each marine to govern over
>Take out 60k active/reserve duty soldiers per marine not including emergency conscriptions
>Take out 70 MBTs per marines
>14 fighter jets
>20 helicopters
>some 50~100 cruise missile stockpiles
>Ukraine front alone sees 3k~5k FPV drone usage per day. Imagine that on global scale
I know that the fanboys are eager to prove how "strong" the marines are, but the argument would have been much better if Imperium simply brought a small fleet and an auxiliary IG detachment.
Outdated 1980s British nerd design is one thing, but the sheer scale of things can just shit hard on the marines.
>Just glass the Earth
Then why even bother with marines?

Melee in 40k is carried by the fact that monomolecular blades are both common and cheap, even the common knives carried by enlisted guardsmen have atom-thick edges. Which means that something like a chainsword might actually be capable of cleaving through a target.

the IG are horrendously outmatched and will get shitchanned unless the navy bombards all military concentrations of note for them.
>>21635
Monoblades are decently common but most guardsmen do not have them, the last I checked, though some regiments do have all their soldiers with monoblades.

Remember that 40k is based first on rule of cool, and second on narrative convenience. Monomolecular blades are exactly as common as the writers feel is necessary.

The sheer width I feel is a bit of flanderization where on the models it's chunky to avoid having it be too fragile, but then artists started drawing them all like that using the models as reference and it is now forever unintentionally super fat.

They would be arguing among themselves if it's real. I can tell that they have lower ability to discern deepfakes than the alpha gen simply due to lack of exposure.

No. Chain saws need to be constantly pressed against the thing you want to chop/cut, so swinging it around like a sword would be pointless. If chain swords were real then you wouldn't swing one around and instead use it kind of like a hammer and swing it down onto whatever you want to kill and just press against it .
>>21634
Assuming that the chapter doesn't just nuke you from orbit and for this example they can't use their space ships, then the chapter would die in a week at best. Literally Russia in their dog shit state would win against a chapter.

>Orbit
depends on high many ships, but pretty sure we could repurpose our ICBMs and kickstart space industry to nuke them, attempting to take out their mission capability.
Even if their ships were extensively used as tactical support along with ECM suite, doesn't mean we can't use manual strikes. RPGs, 40mm grenade launchers, Javelins, NLAWs, plenty of stuff to take em out even on foot. Even more so if a 50cal could be considered a "Heavy Stubber".

Yeah I am sure our nukes and shit could knock them out, but them some more bullshit will protect them like their shielding or whatever stupid shit they have. I like 40k but the whole "Would X from 40k work IRL" or something similar is a useless argument to even have since the setting is made by a bunch of non-guns brit bongs who took fantasy and just pumped it 40k years into the future so its more of a future fantasy setting and not a sci-fi setting. IRL Space Marines would get jobbed by any decent army. The whole thing of chapters being made up of only 1000ish space marines is plain retarded but thats what I expect from the people who created it because they have no real world knowledge of how a military works. A space marine would die to a rpg or grenade launcher, the best tank in the setting would get shot from 5kms from a US tank in seconds before they can even react. The whole setting is stupid the moment you try to apply real world logic into it.

We are talking about a setting where:
>Space ships exist that have the fire power and tech to glass a whole planet in a matter of days yet they choose to fight ship battles like ships of the line.
>You got advanced weapons that can kill people from 1km+ yet you have sword duels nearly every battle.
>You have advanced fighters that can go from orbit down into the planet yet they fight like WW2 dog fighters.
The setting isn't supposed to work IRL because it was meant to be over the top and what matters at the end is that we get to read, play, or see some cool space people kill other space people.

Imperium ships do have shields, yes. That is why titans are such a big deal, because they mount the same shields that you would usually only see a starship packing. Ditto for their weapons.

>when deployed offensively it is in brutal lightning raids where they are in and out before logistics becomes an issue
Most of the Space Marine's adaptions and cybernetic implants are for long missions, and the lore is full of examples of extremely long campaigns and missions. When Warhammer was first made, SF were a notable capability for doing longer missions with less logistic support than regular forces - the fact that GW bolter wank fangays now associate them with modern SF tropes just demonstrates that the series has no authenticity at all and is just fantasy fulfillment for immature men of poor intellect.
