How practical would warhammer 40k weaponry and armor be irl?

Its shit even in their universe.

The armor these superhumans use can barely stop the regular humans ammo and gets cut penetrated by tons of stuff even claws.

The gun is just a massive caliber pistol. With mediocre range and rate of fire big holes but in a world with super lasers it is meh.

Better than nothing and in theory it should be giod but really if you go by the books seems it is made of cardboard.

Here's the thing: 40k was initially written by plagiarizing retards trying to sell toys, and was fleshed out by absolute d tier authors over decades. It's a retarded setting and none of it makes sense or ever will.

Is it fun? Yes. Is it coherent? Mostly no

Practical? 40K? None of it is practical, even the Tau who come closest to a real conventional military still have gear that would never make sense to use in reality, you simply don't need the lethality and production complexity of a pulse rifle.

>bolter
Would work after they finally decided what it was around 2010, also correctly shown to be ridiculously expensive in the Fantasy Flight RPG like it would be.

>Chain-X
Doesn't work, you'd fuck up the chain with enough impacts.

>Power-X
Space magic.

>melta
Microwave space magic.

>needlegun
Might work but also kinda stupid.

>auto/stub gun
It's a gun.

>monoedge
Would work for one swing then be dull as shit.

>gravgun/graviton gun
Space magic.

>lasgun
Lasers exist but laser guns wouldn't look like that.

>armor
All space magic in narrative function with stats which make it it less effective than WW2 armor because Bongs can't do math

>anything to do with spaceships
I repeat Bongs can't do math.

>webber
Riot foam exists, so not totally retarded if you actually want suffocate people. That's the reason it has mostly been discontinued because its actually too good at accidentally killing the target.

Officio Assassinorum might do real damage
>Callidus Temple
can disguise as any man or woman and get rid of the original target, any political leader, general will be replaced
>Eversor
any gathering is compromised, trenches are fucked, it does not stop it will not stop, probably can empty a city given enough time and drugs
>Vindicare
bullshitium aimbot rifle that will outrange any other sniper rifle, dude shoot off flies dick with trickshots from miles away
>Culexus
not much for them to do here, they kill psykers/daemons, might make old fart politician keel over from fear and paranoia (assuming we apply no warp in our universe and powerful people are not literal daemons)
>"others"
there is a minor temple that specializes in poison, might see some use
intelligence gathering one, will be useful

Vanus Temple is so underrated. Assassins who specialize in information gathering, hacking, data fabrication and targeted "character asssassination".

They don't NEED to actually kill the target, they just completely ruin their lives through internet trolling.
Their finances? Ruined because someone emptied their accounts and sold all their shit dirt cheap.
Their reputation? In shambles because they dug up all that footage from their journey to Pleasure Planet Epstein.
Their intel network? Someone gathered a total list of all their agents and just gave it to their enemies.
Every bribe they ever paid has been exposed, every ally is distancing themselves from the target. Their own family is disowning them because they have been exposed as a heretic (either by real evidence or fabricated ones being leaked into public).
Their house is in total chaos because every system is malfunctioning. Power doesn't run, door locks open on themselves, water doesnt flow, toilets don't flush and the god damn roomba is trying to kill you!

By the time Vanus temple is done, they don't even need to pull the trigger. The target will off themselves on their own.

(Yes, they drew the hacker assassin as a woman in skin-tight suit ...because of course they did.)

They use future materials. Power armor uses energy to tightly bind the material together and offers a decent chance of surviving an intermediate caliber, it is however extremely heavy and expensive requiring rare materials and meticulous manufacture as well as the power pack.

Ceramite is unpowered but can offer infantry a small chance of survival. It is also one of the components of power armor and used in tank armor. The material supposedly spreads energy throughout the ceramite plate very rapidly, so instead of energy focussed on a small area in a short period of time enough to break the bonds between molecules, the entire plate moves like a shock absorber. If such a futuristic material were used in a tank then in theory our armor piercing tungsten rods or shaped charges would simply push the plate backwards, albeit with considerable force, if the plate is well backed up it would have minimal effect, perhaps only a scuff.

We would have to pound these tanks hard like a jackhammer in the hopes of breaking them down in some way. It perhaps explains the high profile of these tanks, which to us seems like a bad idea. While we're pelting them their goal is to return fire and quickly and conveniently eliminate whatever has revealed itself by attacking them.

This also makes sense in the context that these armies are fighting some very irregular forces, tyranids that ranges from swarms and to giants, ork chicanery, chaos nonsense. They need a level of flexibility when it comes to basically blasting everything in sight, as opposed to a highly specialized main battle tank intended to kill other tanks like itself. The commander's sword is actually functional in the event some xeno or chaos abomination gets inside the tank while our tank crews would be ill prepared. Some gretchins may even manage to take control over an m1a1 abrams.

Also, there are extreme restrictions on what kind of software/hardware can be used. In general, there should not be a single weapon system that can make independent decisions without human approval or explicit order to do so.

They have a blanket ban on anything even remotely "smart" technology. If there is a "smart" system, it is allowed to exist only if thre is a literal human wetware component in it (like as a lobotomized human brain). These people fought a near-extinction level war against run-away AI, and thought "NEVER AGAIN!".

See the pic related? There are two space marines standing in an elevator. See the guy pointed by the arrow? Yeah, that's not a guy. That's a servitor. A human who has had his limbs amputated, most of his brain scooped off, what is left mind-wiped, plugged full of cybernetic parts and made into ...an elevator.
That's what he is. Not a person, an elevator. That's all he is. Plugged into a life-support system and spending the rest of his miserable existance as an elevator because that's what they would rather do: Rather a thousand humans be repurposed into home appliances than have a single computer system that does not have wet-ware parts. Because that's how much they distrust any kind of "smart computers".

Just like >>21711 said, it should be noted that ceramite is not modern "ceramic armor", but a highly advanced metamaterial (from our point of view).

It was mostly designed to be highly resistant against directed energy weapons (which most of the weapons were back before the Age of Strife/Old night). So it's super good against lasguns, volkite and even offering some protection against plasma/melta (although rarely survives a direct hit).

Against kinetic impacts (bullets etc physical projectiles) it does function somewhat as stated: offers shock absorbtion and ablative properties. A thick slab of rounded ceramite, when hit by a BEEG BULLIT is most likely to ricochet it off. If the projectile comes in a nasty angle or is somewhat AP, it is more likely to just blast a cratering hole into the ceramite (much like ablative armor) rather than to penetrate.

Obviously, a lot of the weapons in WH40k are ludicreously overpowered and simply CAN punch through (and those space marine armors do have their weak spots, such as in the joints) so some casualties might be expected. But overall, against anything infantry-carried they should be pretty sold defense.

>I am sorry, but what can those faggots do against an F-35 dropping JDAMs and JSMs 10km off the ground, or an endless streams of fibre optics FPV drones with RPG AT rounds, while the operators sit comfortably some 50km away from the front lines?
Generally they deal with those by not being there by the time the planes or drones arrive. Or by distracting/suppressing them with their own air assets like thunderhawks until they can extract.

The stereotypical space marine chapter operates as a high mobility heavy assault force. Drop a squad of space marines where they can do the most damage with the least amount of resistance, kill everyone between them and the target, then move on or extract them back to the safety of the battle barge before the main response force arrives. Lather, rinse, repeat, until the enemy's leadership/logistics/morale has been sufficiently destroyed and they lose cohesion. If they need some fire support drop a whirlwind or predator with them or give em a dreadnought or two, and if they need to crack some really heavy defenses teleport a squad of terminators into the middle of their base and have them clean house.

I mean you're right that scale in 40k makes no goddamn sense but it's still pretty retarded to imply that the marines have to destroy every military asset on the planet and have boots on the ground absolute control over every meter of the globe in order to win. They have a spaceship, they can hit us far more effectively than we can hit back. All they really need to do is whack enough people, cause enough damage, and blow up enough infrastructure to convince most conventional forces to surrender, decapitate any that refuse, and then set up a loyalist government to police the planet under threat of them coming back and blowing everything up again.

Said government may have all the effectiveness and life expectancy of a dying crack addict but the Astartes don't really care. Dealing with that is the rest of the Imperium's job, and worst case scenario another chapter swings by in a century or two and does the same thing all over until Earth gets the picture or the Imperium gets fed up and nukes the planet.

There's a picture of a culexus staring at some tau and them clutching their heads in pain. That skull mask thing they wear isn't just because the imperium think skulls look cool. It amplifies and focuses their powers to the point that they can affect anything that has a soul as 40k defines souls.

There are actually 8 temples

Adamus are the Weeaboo Temple, only has models in Warhammer 30k not 40k.
Venenum specializes in poisons
Vanus collects information

The defunct temple is Maerorus which created human-xenos mutant hybrids, only one which was successful and was able to lay enough eggs to become a threat to the imperium if left unchecked by the Assassin temples.

Spare Marines aren't idiots(well most of them aren't).

I guess it depends on the chapter but they would enlist local governments willing to work with them. Probably Russia, North Korea,Belarus-our underdogs. Space Marines would lead technologically enhanced human armies and serve and shock and awe troops, decapitating enemy leadership and military commanders. They would find insurgent groups in USA and Western Europe they would support to initiate civil wars within.

Somewhat like Cortez and Aztecs

Judging from how they handle things, they wouldn't pull off a divide et impera in traditional sense. Our heavy usage of AI, robots, worship of different religions(or lack thereof), degeneracy, worship of egalitarianism and autonomy mean we are hardline heretics and incompatible. They will try to take out our leaders around the world to cause chaos and infighting like they did for Tau and Orks. Maybe Ultramarines will try to talk us down, in their own sense, in reasonable fashion.

Yes, they are canonically less armored than an abrams, but also canonically armored enough to take direct hits with high explosives powerful enough to flip the tank without disabling it. The armor is as good as the narrative needs it to be, so it's as practical irl as you want it to be.

The Baneblade kind of makes sense as an armored camper van you can shove into any environment baring an ocean world and have it sustain its crew, like an armed, mobile moonbase. The typical "eleven barrels of hell" version is almost certainly an Imperial configuration on the chassis as the SM variants from 30k have a more reasonable "single turret, big gun, everything else is an CIWS" construction.

NTA but Titus also killed like dozens of Chaos Space Marines, including mosh pits where an entire squad of Chaos space marines jumped him on more or less open ground, more than once with CSM sorcerers and Traitor Guard backing them up. He solo'ed an Ork Warboss with an entire platoon of orks backing him up, and beats a high level Chaos Terminator to death, including a part where he just physically overpowers the guy for a brief moment. It's a silly comparison but imagine the tabletop stats of Titus if we took his game performance at face value, where he was surprise attacked twenty Blootletters from multiple directions and just walked straight through them.

Using heroic main characters, or people that scale directly to them, as an example of anything relating to guys other than them leads to this endlessly circular power scaling where Space Marines are as strong as ten Space Marines.
