AFAIK the DDoS software they have more or less just checks for common bot behavior and autobans/timesout that IP if it's doing suspicious things. It's not "true" DDoS protection because you can simply just keep running requests to the webserver until it overloads.

Most DDoS software that work these days will contact the ISP of the IP about bot traffic and block/limit certain things in a working relationship. If I have 10 million nodes your local DB of IP's and webserver isn't going to do shit when it still has to check and filter requests.
