Rechargeable sounds alright, the ones in the OP that are battery powered go through batteries like crazy.

>be a big bakingfag
>talking to friends about it
>mention offhand that my stand mixer starts getting hot when i run it at max speed while its kneading dough but otherwise works fine
>christmas comes around
>my friends tell me they have a big surprise for me
>hype it up all week
>finally receive my gift at friendsmas party
>its a fucking stand mixer
>im genuinely confused because i already have one that works
>they presumed mine was on the way out so they got me a replacement
>have to act surprised and relieved that my old cruddy stand mixer can finally kick rocks
6 months later i'm still using the old one and the gift is still in it's box
Granted, it's an amazing, super thoughtful gift and they all chipped in for it and I'm incredibly grateful, but my current stand mixer really shows no signs of dying and I'm mortified of the prospect of them coming over and seeing their gift still in it's box

Yeah that was pretty nice, although I think big ticket gifts like that should be given with a receipt just in case

I'm sure it does work just fine. The issue is that something like that is a large, single-use kitchen gadget that isn't useful for anything except it's intended purpose.
What do you do with it on weeks where you don't want pizza? You are forced to try to find somewhere to fit it into your cupboard, and it takes up space that could've been filled with something generally more useful. It's the definition of a white elephant gift.
