I don't need it super bright, but I sure would like accurate non-shit white with high CRI and tuneable between ~2500-6000k (wider range is better, but i'm realistic).

oh god i love when the lamp stops responding to the remote and is eternally stuck in 6000k mode.

18w LED is perfect and almost barely enough. it’s like a 60 watt old school bulb I would say. NTA

Nah they suck shit. Huge red spike makes everything look brown. Phillips these days is a total clownshow. I only buy cheap bulbs from contractor supply brands any more.

CRI is too subject to trolling to be a useful metric over 90. Look for high R9 values or ideally TM-30 scores.

No

i use incandescent (krypton gas) bulbs mostly

i have some Sylvania Truwave 2700k LED bulbs because they are some of the only bulbs with zero flicker that aren't expensive (and >90% R9 CRI)

krypton gas incandescents last way longer than normal ones. probably outlives LEDs

Every 12V LED bulb and all led strips run off a good DC power supply are zero flicker.

LED strips in general are the best quality LED lighting for minimum cost.

You're not getting a flicker-free switched mode PSU though. You need a linear power supply, too heavy to fit into a light bulb.

I'm looking into making my own incandescent lightbulbs. There is a century old lightbulb out there.
One of the lightbulbs that were here when the "founders" got here.
I'm really curious how that thing was made and why it's lasted so long.

I have a tasmota bulb I should do this with but I'm lazy and just keep a dedicated browser window open to change the sliders.

I hate how hard it is to remove the botnet from some of these things. I have a box of RGB bulbs that can only be flashed over serial and it would probably be partially destructive to even try it.

>>24030
Is Matter any good? I actually have a plug that supports it. It seems like a good step, but I like being able to run custom firmware on stuff.

I'm just gonna drop these here because they're cool:

Because it was ushed was lower than modern bulbs. IIRC we have there a factor of 9 related to voltage amd life expectancy. Problem is, they bwcome way less efficient at thise low temperatures.

No. I can kinda get the

autism, but fuck fluorescents. I’m glad those awful fuckers are gone. Their only benefit is the sounds they make when you turn on a whole warehouse with them, but that doesn’t offset all their other ills.

i dont really know anything about lightbulbs, but this is what chatGPT says:

"The biggest upgrade I made was ignoring “watt equivalent” and shopping by lumens, color temperature, and CRI instead. I use 2700K high-CRI bulbs for bedrooms and living rooms, 3000–4000K for work areas, and avoid cheap bulbs with visible flicker because they can make a room feel subtly unpleasant even when you can’t explain why."

The power supply works at 40+ kHz (PWM dimmers generally a lot lower, but we're talking about power supplies). You are not seeing that shit.

i use halogen incandescents. led bulbs make you mentally ill, mental illness has increased rapidly over the last 10 years or so and its obviously from all the blue light people are now subjected to. the red parts of the ir spectrum are proven to be really good for you but now people dont get them because they sit under leds all day. incandescent bulbs output a spectrum which is almsot exactly the same as fire
