It's a long time since I've dabbled with a Mac but I believe to remember that the OS all are for free (at least back then they were, the key here is they are supposed to. only run on apple hardware) and so you can just download a copy of the period correct Mac OS or a newer one that runs (check compatibility against the serial).
All you then need is create a bootable flash device on a working computer, look up the keys to be pressed during startup that allow you to select a drive to boot from and it will boot into the installer that guides you.
Enjoy apple thing.
