Steam client eats half gig of memory in idle mode.
Literal electron trash tier level app, but somehow it gets deep-throated so hard by gabben glazers.
Meanwhile discord has been vilified for a decade for the exact same shit.

Steam hosts an infinite amount of video games.
Steam has chats, group chats, voice chats.
Steam has better recording software than nVidia/AMD, clipping too.
Steam has an infinite amount of ways to customize your experience and profile.
Steam is the only good platform to buy video games and to get your support/questions resolved be it account all the way to refunds.
Steam is now owned by a Jew.
Steam store is the only way to buy the best handheld device available that also offers the best support.
Steam & Valve did more for GNU/+Linux in the last 3/4 years than anyone ever could including it's creator.

I'm not sure there are anyone who actually LIKES the Steam client. I mean it's better than the alternatives sure, but it's more the service people like rather than the client itself.

If Steam was just a website where you downloaded the game installer, that would be fine. It's literally all I want.

Steam invited a lot of people into the free software community who weren't fully committed to free software.
Maybe it'll improve and fund free software, but Valve is stopping short of releasing the Steam client as free software. They have every opportunity to give back to free software.

The entire video game industry sucks ass because the use of predatory DRM-ware is considered an industry standard. Of all the predatory DRM-ware available for PCs, Steam is the least bad one that actually has games people want to play.

Best part is they have a mode like it in practice under View > Small Mode, but it does jack shit to resources.

Steam is malware these days.
Do a test: install or vibecode disable video autoplay user script and see how quickly steam store loads in, it's pretty fascinating how garbage Valve is.
Bonus: while you are at it, make disable mouse hover effects and see how much that improves the store.
